The first machine to combat flavescence dorée
Its main objective is to allow the treatment with hot water bath to fight the disease of the flavescence dorée vine which is at the origin of important loss of harvest.
The flavescence dorée is an incurable quarantine disease in grapevines and is particularly contagious.
Today, more than half of the French vineyard area is under compulsory control.
Like other plant yellows, flavescence dorée is caused by phytoplasmes, small wall-less bacteria of the class Mollicutes. They are obligate intracellular parasites reproducing in the phloem of plants and in biting-sucking insects that feed on them. The main vector of flavescence doréephytoplasmes is the leafhopper Scaphoideus titanus.
The vine leafhopper is harmful to the plants it feeds on and promotes flavescence dorée, a highly contagious and deadly disease for vines.

The steps of the process.
Acclimatization of the vines
The vines, stored in nursery fridges at a temperature of 4°C, are taken out and then stored in a warehouse at 16°C to reacclimatize.
Bathing of the vines
The vines are immersed in water at 50°C for 45 minutes according to French protocol.
Reacclimatization of vines
After bathing, they are again stored in a warehouse at 16°C to reacclimate to the temperature before returning to the nursery fridges.
